Mopar Muscle Cars of Austin
News and Late-breaking Updates

Updated April 9 2006

MEETING LOCATION:  Our current meeting place is Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Austin TX. The church is located at US 183 and Georgian Drive, which is about a block west of I-35 on US 183.  The church is on the north side of US 183, and we now meet in the upper parking lot at the rear of the sanctuary..

A note about site updates: They sometimes don't happen very often.
We apologize for this, but we ask you to be aware that MMCA is very much ALIVE AND WELL and we do meet the first tuesday of every month.  Its a shame that our "real jobs" get in the way of Mopars, but it happens!

Past Event Reports and Photos

April 2005

The annual tri-club Mopar piccnic was held April 16th at Fisherman's Park in Bastrop, Texas. Members of Mopar Muscle Cars of Austin, the Mopar Muscle Club of San Antonio, and the Houston Mopar Connection Club all participated, with a great turnout and a lot of fun. We have pictures, thanks to new Mopar Muscle Cars of Austin member Randy Hollinshead (65 Coronet Sedan).  Thanks to all who attended this year's event!

Feb 2005

We had a good Pie Run, with 4 cars and 12 people. The weather was cloudy with occasional mist, so we proved that we don't treat 'em like trailer queens. We had such a good time (and such good food, thanks to Bluebonnet Cafe in Marble Falls) that we're already thinking about ideas for the next run- maybe BBQ in Lockhart or Llano.  Photos from today's run are at this link.  Thanks to everyone who came out.

Jan 2005

We had our annual Freeze your Buns Junkyard Run again this January. We had about 14 people attend, and had a good time scavenging around John's Salvage in Seguin, as well as Dr. Mopar's place in Niederwald.  Good parts are getting harder to find, but these two junkyards have never let us down. Be thankful for places that hang on to cars even when the price of scrap iron gets high enough to tempt them to crush everything!

April 15 2004

Pictures
from the 16th Annual Blanco Classic Car Show have been uploaded. Our own Shaikh Ahmad came home with the second-place trophy in the Mopar category with his fantastic 1968 Charger R/T. First place was taken by a beautiful dark green 1969 Coronet R/T coupe from the town of Martindale. I had a chance to talk with the owner at length (swapping Coronet R/T insights) and found that he's had the car a little less than a year and it came from Oklahoma. Its a real beauty, too.

Other cars of interest- First Place in the "foreign car" category is worth mentioning. It is the '56 Dodge Mayfair, and pictures can be found in the "Mopars" section from the link above. It qualified as foreign becuase the Mayfair was a Canadian export model not available in the US. Also, first place in one of the street rod categories went to an awsome 426 Hemi powered Willys done up in bright orange. Pictures if it are also filed under "Mopars" at the link above.

I also included a number of pictures of British, Ford, and GM cars. If anyone wants full-resolution copies of any picture, let me know at sglacker@texas.net. The pictures are heavily compressed to save bandwidth.

April 3, 2004
The Annual Bastrop Mopar Picnic
with the Houston and San Antonio Mopar clubs was held on Saturday April 3rd at Bastrop City Park in downtown Bastrop, TX. In spite of iffy weather, Mopars from all three clubs turned out and enjoyed the park once again.

We had a BUSY September. Mopar Muscle Cars of Austin participated in 3 shows in central/south Texas. The first show opportunity of the month was the Texas Classic Car Show (click the link for GREAT pictures!) at Rudy's Country Store on Highway 183.   At the show,  Mopar Muscle Cars of Austin presented a check for $300 to the Make-A-Wish foundation. We are proud to contribute to this worthy organization.

We also were invited to the grand opening of the new Maxwell Dodge dealership on Highway 620, and had a very good turnout of vintage Mopar Iron. Shaikh Ahmad's 1968 Charger took the "best vintage Mopar" award AND the "best of show" award, beating out a healthy contingent of Vipers. Participants also recieved coupons for a free run on the dealership's in-ground chassis dynomometer, and Shaikh took advantage of his coupons that day with a very stout dyno pull. Click here for pictures of this show.

And finally, we took seven cars to the annual Mopar Muscle Club of San Antonio car show. We recieved the club participation award, as well as individual awards for Joe Hoppe (first place, Truck/Utility 1983 and prior), Shaikh Ahmad (4th place, B-Body Dodge),  Enrique Guerra (3rd Place, B-body Dodge) and Craig Rowling (First Place, B-body Plymouth). Congratulations to all! You can view photos of MMCA members' cars by clicking here (photos courtesy of Ron Chinn and Terry Siegmund). More pictures of this show may  soon be available on the San Antonio club's Car Show Photo Gallery page. There are pictures of the 2002 show on that page as well.

And finally (though not technically in September) Dustin and Ed journeyed to the Houston Mopar Show and Race.
