note: He moved to Bandera County, TX, in 1859. He joined Robert Ballantyne's Company of Minutemen organized for the protection of the settlers in March 1860. During the Civil War, he served in Company C, 2nd Texas Regiment, Branch Cavalry from spring 1861 until the end of the war. George served again as a private in Ballantyne's company of minutemen from 1872 to 1873. His wife came to Texas in 1846 with her parents, who were members of the Lyman Wight Mormon colony and arrived in Bandera County in 1854. The Lewis family lived in MO and then returned to Bandera County, TX, sometime after the Civil War. His wife was the daughter of Jeanette Ballantyne and Abram Moncur. On the 1850 census, his wife was (age 6) with her parents in Gillespie County, TX; on the 1860 census, she was (age 16) with her siblings in Bandera County, TX.
