1834 - Sarah Ellen Cave is born to Margaret and James Cave (January 4) in the city of Fredericksburg, VA.
1835 - James Cave and his wife Margaret receive a deed to a tract of land in Stafford County, VA, called "Hartwood" (January 1) from John A. Morson. They sell part of the land to William Latham, but John A. Morson dies before the purchase price is paid to him, and William Morson becomes entitled to the money as heir. To secure the money, James Cave conveys the remainder of the property by deed of trust to Richard Cassius Lee Moncure.
1836 - Elizabeth Jane Cave is born to Margaret and James Cave (April 11) in the city of Fredericksburg, VA.
        - James Cave places an advertisement in the Fredericksburg Virginia Herald (October 19) to sell "Hartwood", the property located in Stafford County, VA, with the intention of "removing south."
1837 - Margaret Carter Cave dies (October 24).
1838 - James Cave marries Rebecca Garrett Gardner, widow of Thomas N. Gardner, (January 11) in Dallas County, AL.
        - James Cave and his wife Rebecca default on payment for the "Hartwood" property in Stafford County, VA, so on October 17 they agree with William Morson and Richard C. L. Moncure to sell the remaining land at public auction in September to pay the debt.
        - James Cave is given legal notice (December 21) in the Fredericksburg Political Arena of a suit against him and ordered to appear at the Stafford County Court on April 1 the following year to answer the charge.
1839 - James Cave appears before the court of Autauga County, AL, on January 5 and acknowledges the land deed dated October 17, 1838, in Stafford County, VA, in order that the deed may be recorded.
