As part of your reading of the McGinn and Howerton essay, "The Renaissance," you may have noticed that the majority of the illustrations of Renaissance literature for study centered on the sonnet Use this page for general background and links to the specific sonnets found in "The Renaissance" essay, noted above..
Your assignment is to offer an analysis of two sonnets, one Shakesperian and the other Petrarchan

You should comment on the following:

1. The effectiveness of the form selected by the poet, either English (Shakesperian or Petrarchan), i.e., why did the poet choose one over the other.

2. How the sonnet specifically relates to the Renaissance theory. Recall the various classifications of sonnets in the "Renaissance."

3. Discuss thoroughly the imagery as peculiar to the Renaissance.

 

This paper should be seven to eight pages in length.
