Student Self-Evaluation

NAME_______________________________________Course__________

Spring , 2009

Please write a thoughtful and thorough response to the following. Plan to spend some time on this project. A good time to write this evaluation

is during your writing of the final paper. Turn in this response along with any other work due at the time of the final examination Please write two to three pages.

First, read the following:

In 1957 Professor Paul Dressel defined a grade as "an inadequate report of an inaccurate judgment by a biased and variable judge of the extent to which a student has attained an undefined level of mastery of an unknown proportion of an indefinite material." This definition of grades appears to reflect the state of the art even today, and at best a grade probably measures only a small part of the actual growth a student has made in any given course.

Next, re-read the definition (above) carefully. Then, respond to the following questions. Be sure to write a thoughtful and thorough response. Write this self-evaluation using a word-processor. This self-evaluation affords you the opportunity to reflect upon your experience in our course.

1. What grade do you believe that you deserve in this course? Why?

2. What have you learned that cannot be measured?

3. What have you learned in this course which really surprised you?
