The assignment for our World Wide Web project for the Fall Semester, 1997, was to have annotated the introducton to The Terrain of Comedy edited by Louise Cowan. Our class used this essay as the basis for studying Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and The Canterbury Tales and the film Dead Poets Society among other works which exhibit the characteristics of the comic form. We were to direct interested readers to precise definitions of general and technical words found in the essay and to offer a number of informative links to WWW sites which would further clarify literary terms, historical and literary allusion, and terms and allusions which we thought college students might want to know.
