The assignment for our World Wide Web project for the Fall Semester, 1997, was to have annotated the introducton to The Epic Cosmos edited by Larry Allums.. The General Editor, Louise Cowan, wrote the introduction, "The Epic as Cosmopoesis," and our class used this essay as the basis for studying Anpao and Moby Dick and the film Cabeza de Vaca among other works which exhibit the characteristics of the epic form. We were to direct interested readers to precise definitions of general and technical words found in the essay and to offer a number of informative links to WWW sites which would further clarify literary terms, historical and literary allusion, and terms and allusions which we thought college students might want to know.
