How Do We Conduct Class Online?
A review of the central methods of communication may be found on the Information (Orientation) Page.
(b) We will be using WebCt for most of our online communications, and youare required to meet with the class in the Chat Room. You can easily access the Chat Room by clicking on the WebCT icon on the home page (http://lonestar.texas.net/~mseifert/) or on the main page or go directly to "My WebCT" and you will be sent to the Course Listing. Your User ID consists of the first two letters of your last name along with the last SIX digits of your social security number, (e.g., se671196 for a total of EIGHT letters and numbers, all in lower case. Your Password consists of the month and the year of your birth, (e.g., 0760--July 1960).
1. E-Mail. We will be using e-mail often for a number of purposes: (a) To serve as a way for making announcements "broadcast" to all members of the class, (b) To serve as a way for each of us to contact another member of the group, and (c) To serve as the way you send in your written essays and quizzes, via "e-mail and attachment." Try NOT to use an online e-mail program like "Hotmail" or "Yahoo"! These have limitations in terms of the sizes of documents you can upload and download. Get an E-mail Account NOW!
2. ICQ. ICQ is a revolutionary, user-friendly Internet tool that informs you who's on-line at any time and enables you to contact them at will. No longer will you search in vain for friends or associates on the Net. ICQ does the searching for you, alerting you in real time when they log on. The need to conduct a directory search each time you want to communicate with a specific person is eliminated. My ICQ account numbers are listed here. Be sure to enter my number on your ICQ account. 3. Forum. The Forum for your class appears
on the bottom of the course page. We use this method of communication
simply as a method of following up on class discussions conducted
through our ICQ "chat room"; it is here where you post
interesting observatons concerning the subject matter of a recent
discussion. It becomes a record of your participation in class,
so to speak, and this contribution is very important in terms
of our on-going inter-active classroom! How
