Pecan Grove Press, in conjunction with the San Antonio Public Library's observance of Hispanic Heritage Month, is pleased to announce that author Michael W. Rodriguez will read from his book, Humidity Moon: Short Stories of the Vietnam War, at the Las Palmas branch of the San Antonio Public Library on September 29, 2001 at 2:00 p.m.
Dr. Jorge Mariscal (UC San Diego) wrote that Humidity Moon "... places the Mexican-American experience back into the cultural legacy of America's longest ordeal." Dr. Marian Faye Novak said, "Evocative of great war stories from America's literary past, the stories in Humidity Moon reveal important, universal truths about humanity, love and war as only good fiction can." And Lt.Gen. Jack Klimp, USMC, wrote " I started reading [Humidity Moon] and found I couldn't put it down. Thank you for giving a voice, via your stories, to the young men who fought so gallantly as Marines in Vietnam. They are heroes of our Corps and today's Marines need to know that."
Michael will bring these young Marines to life as he reads selections from his short stories "Go Find White," "Prisoner," "A Christmas Wish (for a G.I.)," and "Going for a Beer." If time allows, he will also read his essay, "Party on the Mountain," from Aztlan and Viet Nam: Chicano and Chicana Experiences of the War.
