The following list contains 21 theses which were presented for the Degree
of Master of Arts, in Spanish, at Texas Christian University, Fort Worth,
Texas, between 1963 and 1976. Most of them were written in Spanish,
a few in English, and some were done in both languages. Many of them were
published by the Mexican Government, through the Secretaría de Hacienda
y Crédito Público, under the supervision of Lic. Carlos J.
Sierra. Sometimes he published them serially in his BOLETÍN
BIBLIOGRÁFICO, then brought them out separately in book form, and
he sent a large quantity of the books to Texas Christian University, for
publication in the United States, by the Texas Christian University Press,
and the Press was allowed to keep the proceeds from the sales.
Usually I chose members of the Academia Mexicana correspondiente de
la Española as subjects of these monographs, because I knew that
election to membership in that organization constituted an honor and distinction
for the most prominent writers of Mexico. In other cases I selected
individuals who had served as my professors, either in the Escuela de Verano
or in the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras, during my two years as
a student in the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México
(1937-1938), on an E. D. Farmer International Fellowship, from The University
of Texas at Austin.
After I had spent 15 years at T.C.U. directing these studies (from
1961 to 1976), I moved to The University of Texas at Arlington, and, on
arriving there, I presented my Director's copies of these works to The
University of Texas at Arlington Library, where they were promptly
catalogued under the call numbers shown below. Therefore copies of
these theses can be requested from either of the two addresses shown below:
