Review of Old Job Goals

Today:  July 9, 2002

Old Goals Dated:    January 18, 2001

Well, it has been a long strange trip, but I am finally settling back into "routine" life. I wanted to go back to my old Goals date of Jan. 18th and review what I've done this past year...you're welcome to read it or skip it. New notes and comments will be colored in red for ease of reading...starting now I guess.

January 18, 2001

"I am now officially looking for a job!  Here's my RESUME (hyperlink removed)!  Smile...that along with recently becoming engaged to be married (recently updated to MARRIED. GOAL OBJECTIVE MET). 2000 was a great year for me.  I found lots of paths to wander and even found someone to wander with me on my future path through life.  2001 starts a New Year and truly a new beginning for me.  With a new perspective, new goals, new dreams, and new motivations, I will be looking to make 2001 an incredible year.

My list New Year's Resolutions begins with GET A JOB!  But, not just a job...but a GREAT JOB, and I've given myself until the end of February to do it!  (I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time...I started a part-time job with Wcities.com at the end of January 2001...it was exciting and dynamic and flexible with all work done from a computer and not in any particular fixed office. Wcities helped make 2001 an awesome year.) My definition of a great job would be:

1.  High Tech in nature.  Internet/e-commerce, B2B, or Wireless Communications readily come to mind.  I enjoy cutting edge stuff and want to be involved with it. (Wcities was a virtual company with everything done online. I started by editing work done in Mexico and ended up managing the Mexico and Caribbean Region and all the contractors in it. It was a company focused on wireless internet...GOAL OBJECTIVE MET. It was an exciting job and gave me the opportunity to live in Brazil while working and earning US Dollar$.)

2.  High level of Latin America focus.  Countries South of our borders seem to be a hugely mis-understood and under-developed...but I expect this to change rapidly.  2001 finds Latin America rapidly facing globalization challenges and opportunities...I want to be involved with the exciting development of this region.  Also, are the obvious personal interests that I've developed in this area. (The position with Wcities allowed me to broaden my background in Latin America in my job and in where I lived, Brazil. GOAL OBJECTIVE MET.)

3.  Ability to grow within a job and to develop it in ways that neither the hiring manager nor myself will foresee at the outset.  I see myself being the most effective in an environment which allows autonomy but has a structure to support and promote good ideas from conception through implementation. (I started part-time and became the full-time Regional Editor for Mexico and the Caribbean...and also started an online "chat" training program and became the North American Training Coordinator. I didn't expect to be training all of the new contractors at the start of my time with Wcities...but it sure was fun and interesting. GOAL MET.

I've been working on my website and my resume.  Life is too short to hate your job...your job is part of your life.  I'm looking to find a job, pay, benefits, coworkers, and company that I'll truly enjoy.  Stay Tuned!

In the meantime, I've been active with Texas Nomad Enterprises (my personal business) which I started this year.  It allows me to work with my father in his computer consulting business as well as do contract computer work on my own.  I am enjoying these activities which provide some extra $$$, utilize my talents, and are really interesting as well!  Recently I've been contacted to digitize, update, and index a previously published book that is going to be modernized and republished...so I'm keeping busy. (Texas Nomad Enterprises is still going...it has been dormant since the wedding...as I've been spending time with Luciana...but is available to handle jobs on a contract basis when necessary.)

2001 will give all of us opportunities...it is up to us to seize them! (Still true for 2002)

HAPPY NEW YEAR YA'LL...THE SKY'S THE LIMIT!!!!

(2001 and the first part of 2002 has been an amazing journey...and was rewarding because the personal and professional objectives were met...I got a job and got married. While I did take time away from Wcities at the end of January 2002 due to my wedding and the time I would spend with Luciana in moving to the USA, it was a good time with no regrets. I'm looking forward to finding a new job in 2002 that meets my NEW GOALS AND OBJECTIVES for 2002!
