Me!

Taos, NM, Sept 25 2001

A Brief Introduction

In January 2005 I moved back to San Antonio from the very rural Guadalupe County house that I had built myself on 20 acres of mesquite Prairie in 1982.  I had lived there alone in the country for nearly 23 years when in January 2005 I moved back to San Antonio.  I now live at the Chandler Apartments on West French Place on the near north side a short distance from downtown,  This senior's apartment complex is operated by Morningside Ministries, a San Antonio organization that owns 3 seniors independent living apartments.  (More information and pictures from my Chandler campus is available by clicking the Morningside Ministries Site given above).  Last year I sold the 20-acres near Seguin in Guadalupe County, with its house, gazebo and ponds. Paraphrasing Neil Diamond, ”Chandler’s fine but it ain’t home, and Seguin’s home, but it aint’ mine no more.”

I am continuing  my Volunteer work at the Institute of Texan Cultures (ITC).  This institution is a Texas History Museum interpreting our local history as a multi-cultural phenomenon, the result of the many divers ethnic cultures transplanted here.  My particular specialization is the interpretation of the Texas Indian exhibits (Virtual Tour of the ITC)Since 1998 I have also worked as a docent at the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park.  This is the National Park now managing and maintaining four of the 18th-century Spanish Missions on the San Antonio River, in and on the outskirts of the modern city.   I can usually be found at the Mission San Francisco de la Espada on Sunday afternoons.   (Virtual Tour of the Mission Espada).  Also see the The President At the Mission San Jose

Finally, since 1998 I have participated as a Books Discussion Leader with the Senior's Net, Books and Literature Group.  During the course of this time I have led or co-led some dozen-book discussions mostly associated with history and other non-fiction subjects.  In addition I serve Seniornet Books as Non-fiction Coordinator and leader of the continuing Non-fiction Book Discussion

Today despite the tone of the Neil Diamond paraphrase given above, I am quite happy and content  living in the city with the social, cultural and travel opportunities provided by the Chandler community.
