Elton was inducted into the Army on March 25, 1941.  He was assigned to the Signal Corps and received training in telephone and telegraph maintenance.  His duties included stringing field wire and cables, installing telephones and troubleshooting line trouble and making the necessary repairs.  Elton served overseas with the 52nd Signal Battalion in the Pacific Theater of Operations in Australia and New Guinea.  He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal with one bronze star, Asia/Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze stars and the World War II Victory Medal.  He attained the rank of Technician Fourth Grade before being discharged from the Army on September 5, 1945.  Elton passed away August 9, 1963.
