Edwin was drafted into the U.S. Army on November 17, 1944.  After undergoing Infantry Basic Training and Military Police training he was shipped overseas, arriving in Europe on April 28, 1945.  The War in Europe ended shortly thereafter and Edwin stayed on in Europe in the Occupation Forces.  He was assigned to the Headquarters Company, 6817th Special Service Battalion as a Military Policeman during his time in Europe.  He attained the rank of Corporal and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Europe-Africa-Middle East Campaing Medal with one bronze star, World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation (Germany) Medal.  He returned to the U.S. on August 11, 1946 and was discharged from the Army at Fort Sam Houston, Texas on August 21, 1946.
