Ino was inducted into the U.S. Army on June 21, 1941 and assigned to Camp Polk, Louisiana for boot camp. He received combat training in the Mojave Desert, California (probably Camp Irwin) and was assigned to Camp Pickett, Virginia and Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania prior to being transfered to England in preparation for the invasion of Europe. Ino landed at Normandy, France on D-Day plus 12 and fought in the Northern France campaign as a Gunner and Platoon Leader with the Reconnaissance Company, 32nd Armored Regiment, 3rd Armored (Spearhead) Division. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant during the European action. Ino was wounded in action on August 17, 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart on General Order 16, Headquarters 135th GH on August 31, 1944. He also received the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal and Europe, Africa, Middle East Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars. He returned to the U.S. on November 7, 1944 and was assigned to Military Police duty at Fort Sam Houston, Texas until his discharged from the Army on October 12, 1945. Ino was awarded the Bronze Star Medal after his discharge. Ino passed away December 16, 1977.
