Carl entered the Army in 1945. He served overseas in New Guinea, Australia and the China-Burma Theater. He was assigned to the 98the Field Artillery Battalion and to Troop A, 251st Remount Squadron at various times. The shoulder patch he is wearing in the above picture is for those persons serving in the "Theater Headquarters Staff, China-Burma-India Theater". Carl's specialties were animal care, horse shoes and master mechanic. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asia-Pacific Campaign Medal with one bronze star, World War II Victory Medal, 1 service stripe and 4 overseas bars. He was discharged from the Army in 1945.
