SCHULTZ

The Rev. Dr. George S. Schultz, age 78, of Crosslake, MN and San Antonio, passed away Saturday at his home in Crosslake.  He was born in Holland, Indiana, March 28, 1916.  He was a graduate of the Capital University in Columbus, OH and the Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio.  He also graduated from the Julliard School of Music in New York.  He sang professionally and taught at the Capital University in both the School of Music and the School of Divinity.  He had also joined the administration of Capital University.  In 1945 he became the Treasurer of (ALC) American Lutheran Church.  In 1960 he moved to Minneapolis until his retirement in 1980.  In Minneapolis he served as the Executive Secretary to the Board of Trustees to the American Lutheran Church.  For 19 years he narrated the Concordia College (Moorhead, MN) Christmas Concert.  He served on the Board of Directors of Commercial Credit and had served as President of Lutheran Music Schools.  Since his retirement, summers were in the Crosslake area and the balance of the year were in San Antonio.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Josephine Ruehle.  Survivors include wife, Mary Elizabeth; daughter, Gretchen and her husband, Steve Lauer of Columbus, OH; sons, Douglas and his wife, Karen Schultz of Mountlake Terrace, WA, John and his wife, Linda Schultz of Moorhead, MN; 4 grandchildren.

The Rev. Dr. George S. Schultz

March 28, 1916 - September 10, 1994

George was born in Holland, Indiana and was a graduate of Capital University and the Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, OH.  He also attended the Julliard School of Music in New York.  In 1945 he became the Treasurer of the American Lutheran Church (ALC).  In 1960 he moved to Minneapolis until his retirement in 1980.

After moving to San Antonio, George and his wife, Mary Elizabeth, joined Zion in 1981.  In the time since, he was very active in teaching, preaching, and especially with the choir and other areas of music.  His talents will be very much missed.

An endowed scholarship fund has been established at Zion for the National Lutheran Music Program in memory of Dr. George Schultz.  Memorials may also be given to Capital University in Columbus, OH.
