(San Antonio Express-News, November 5, 2000)
Following 3 years in the Army, Reuben returned home to San Antonio, and went to work for S.W. Bell - a career that would last until his retirement 42 years later. On June 27, 1953, Reuben married Jane, a great union of 47 years, that produced their only child, Gary. After Reuben's retirement, he and Jane moved out to their acreage off of Hwy 471. Reuben loved being in the country, and those were wonderful years. About that time, in 1985, he and Jane joined Zion Lutheran, here, where they have been active the past 15 years.
Reuben loved the out-of-doors. He loved his hunting and his fishing all over the state of Texas. He and Jane loved to travel. Reuben was a member of the Pioneers with the phone company, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Alfazar Shrine.
Reuben is remembered for his easy-going nature, and his helpfulness to anyone and everyone.
Reuben died peacefully in the Lord from his own home this past Friday morning, at the age of 76.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Jane; son, Gary and wife Kimberly; grandson, Shane; stepgranddaughters, Danielle and Adrienne Davis; nephew Mark Scheffler and wife Carol; niece Jane Eichholtz and husband, Bill; several great-nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and loved ones.
