Ethel A. Galm Ott

October 10, 1912 - May 27, 2003

Ethel Galm was born October 10, 1912 in San Antonio, Texas, one of five children born to Lena & Walter Galm.  She was baptized in her home on February 23, 1913 and at that point began a lifelong membership at Zion Lutheran Church.

Ethel married Paul Ott on June 12, 1937 and their family came to include a daughter, Mata and a son, Paul.  They lived on Potranco Road for 44 years and then moved to Castroville.

Ethel had a full life.  She worked at Sam Rayburn Middle School for ten years and spent several more with Lackland Elementary School.  When not at work, she was involved in church and school activities.  At Zion she was a member of the Dorcas Circle and chair of its Cheer Card Committee.  Ethel was active in the Crafty Bunch, Zion Zippers and a sponsor of the youth group.  You could always find her helping out with 4-H, band boosters and NISD PTA.

Ethel's life with us came to an end on Tuesday, May 27, 2003.  We look forward to our resurrection day when all who believe will be reunited in Christ.

Ethel was preceded in Death by her husband Paul W. Ott, parents Lena & Walter Galm and brothers David & Harold Galm.  She is survived by her daughter Mata Nell Orth and husband Leonard; son Paul C. Ott and wife Patricia; sister-in-law Amanda Ott; grandchildren Heath Orth and wife Kelly, Karen McHam and husband Chuck, Jason Ott, Jarrett Ott; great-granddaughter Maleri McHam; brothers Calvin Galm and wife Mildren, Sammy Galm and wife Lucille; aunt Mary Galm; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

When I come to the end of the road,
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom filled room,
Why cry for a soul set free!

Miss me a little, but not too long,
And not with your head bowed low,
Remember the love we shared,
Miss me - but let me go!
For this is a journey, we all must take,
And each must go alone,
It's all a part of the Master's plan,
A step on the road toward home.

When you are lonely and sick of heart,
Go to the friends we know,
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds,
Miss me - but let me go! Anonymous
