NICKEL


Leroy C. Nickel, age 76, passed away Friday, January 11, 2002.  Mr. Nickel retired from University of Texas Health Science Center in 1991.  He was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary R. Nickel.  Survived by his children, Curtis L. Nickel and wife Susan, Dennis J. Nickel, Arthur J. DeCock and wife Melanie, Phil R. DeCock and wife Erma, Rosemary Seewald and husband Elton, Doris A. Bippert and husband Dennis, Robert R. DeCock; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Cedalia Wehmeyer, Myrtle Nickel, Gerald Nickel and wife Helen Marie, Florine Nickel, Glen Nickel; numerous nieces and nephews.  A Visitation will be held 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., Sunday, January 13, 2002 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home.  Funeral Service will be conducted 2:00 P.M., Monday, January 14, 2002 at Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes.  Interment will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Helotes, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes Building Fund, 9944 Leslie Road, San Antonio, TX 78254-9547.

Leroy Charles Nickel

August 30, 1925 - January 11, 2002

Leroy Nickel was born on August 30, 1925 in San Antonio, Texas, the third of six children born to Charles and Ella (Steubing) Nickel.  He was baptized into the Christian faith on August 15, 1926 here at Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes.  He was confirmed on June 1, 1941.  His life was part of 76 years of Zion Lutheran Church's 98 year history.

In his younger days, Lee left the family ranch to become a plumber in order to provide better prospects for his family.  He worked for the University of Texas Health Science Center at the time of his retirement in 1991.  He also enjoyed hunting and camping.  The true legacy left behind by Lee Nickel is his family.  He always enjoyed being involved in family gatherings.

After nearly a month's stay in the hospital, Lee passed away this past Friday at the age of 76 years.  Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

Leroy was preceded in death by his wife, Mary. He is survived by his children, Curtis Nickel and wife Susan, Dennis Nickel, Arthur DeCock and wife Melanie, Phil DeCock and wife Erma, Rosemary Seewald and husband Elton, Doris Bippert and husband Dennis, Robert DeCock, 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Cedalia Wehmeyer, Myrtle Nickel, Gerald Nickel and wife Helen Marie, Florine Nickel, Glen Nickel; numerous nieces and nephews.
