William Fritz Braun passed away June 20, 2004.  William (Bill) was born in Helotes, TX on January 10, 1910.  William was preceded in death by his father, William Henry Braun and his mother, Amelia Biering of Helotes, TX and his loving wife of 63 years, Loraine.  William's only surviving sibling out of seven is Amanda Ott of Schulenburg, TX.  William is survived by his two loving daughters, Gay B. Phillips and husband Bill, Betty Evans and husband Dalton; grandchildren, Lara B. Steger and husband Mark, Lindsey Alexander and husband James ('Rusty'), Kristen Phillips and husband Matt Schreck, Derek Phillips and wife Rebecca; one great-grandson, Christopher; numerous nieces and nephews.  In 1970, William retired from civil service with 30 years at Kelly AFB and then worked at the Northside Independent School District.  William was a charter member for over 50 years and served as president of Lodge 76 Sons of Hermann.  As a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes, he was a longtime member of the Lutheran Brotherhood and served as Councilman and cemetery board member.  Because of his dedication to his community, William served as a volunteer for the Helotes Volunteer Fire Department for many years.  William will be remembered for his warm and friendly smile.  William enjoyed being with family and friends and was always there to lend a helping hand to whomever was in need.  He never met a stranger and would never forget a name.  Our dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather will be missed by so many dear friends at Patriot Heights Retirement Community and Healthcare Center and Kingsley Place at Medical Center.  Visitation will be held at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Bandera Road on Wednesday June 23, 2004 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.  Services will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes with Rev. Jennifer Gold officiating, followed by Interment in Helotes Cemetery No. 2.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes, Perpetual Care of Church No. 1, 9944 Leslie Rd., San Antonio, TX 78254 or the Disabled American Veterans of America, Charitable Gift Annuity Program, P.O. William "Bill" Braun

January 10, 1910 - June 20, 2004

William "Bill" Braun passed away on June 20, 2004, at the age of 94.  He was born one of seven children to parents Amelia (Biering) & William Henry Braun on January 10, 1910, in Helotes, Texas.

In 1932 William met Loraine Moegelin while dancing at Braun Hall.  His and Loraine's love for each other and for dancing spanned a 61 year marriage.  Their lives were blessed with two daughters, Gay Phillips and Betty Evans.

In 1970 William retired from civil service with 30 years at Kelly AFB, and then worked at the Northside Independent School District.  William was a charter member of Lodge 76 Sons of Hermann for over 50 years and served as president.  As a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes, he served on the church council and cemetery board.  William also was involved as a member of Lutheran Brotherhood and the Helotes Volunteer Fire Department.

William's life with us came to an end on Sunday, June 20, 2004.  We look forward to our resurrection day when all who believe will be reunited in Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Loraine. He is survived by daughters Gay Phillips and husband Bill, Betty Evans and husband Dalton; grandchildren Lara Steger and husband Mark, Lindsey Alexander and husband James "Rusty"; Kristen Phillips and husband Matt Schreck; Derek Phillips and wife Rebecca; great-grandson Christopher; sister Amanda Ott; and numerous nieces and nephews.
