CARL BRAUN DIES HERE
Was Justice of Peace 18 Years at Helotes

Carl Braun, 70 years old, a resident of Texas for 63 years and for eighteen years justice of the peace at Helotes, died at 10:30 o'clock Saturday morning (December 30, 1916) at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Joe Merklen, 823 Castro street.  The funeral will be held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon from his home at Helotes and interment will be in the Helotes cemetery.  Mr. Braun was a native of Germany.  He was brought to this country at the age of four years by his parents, who settled at New Braunfels.  At the age of ten years his parents moved to San Antonio, where later, as a young man, Carl Braun joined the Texas rangers and engaged in numerous fights with the Indians.  He was a charter member of Harmonia lodge No. 1, Hermann Sons.  He is survived by three sons, Herman, Emil and Edward Braun of this city, and six daughters, Mrs. O. Riber, Mrs. Joe Merklen and Mrs. Albert Boynton of this city and Mrs. Fred Borman, Mrs. Emil Ahr and Mrs. Oscar Wood of Helotes; also two sisters, Mrs. Phil Rumpel of Helotes and Mrs. Charles Cass of San Antonio, and twelve grandchildren.
