Mildred "Chick" La Verne Benke, age 79, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2001. Mrs. Benke was born in Vinita, OK and in her late teens moved to Texas where she later met and married William 'Bill' Benke. They established a business in Leon Valley in 1958. It was a new residential area named Benke Mobile Home Park that was in operation until 1985. The residents and business associates were considered good friends of the family. Mrs. Benke was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She is survived by her husband, Bill Benke; one daughter, Crystal Skolaut and her husband Edward; four grandchildren, Lisa Bendele Saegert, Randall Bendele and wife Melissa, Kelli Siemering and husband John and Holli Thomas and husband Curtis; eight great-grandchildren, Lauren, Blake, Amber, Colton, Jackson, Price, Tyler and Abbibale; one brother, William T. Harrison; one sister, Joy O. Powell; numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her son, William Gregory Benke; a grandson, Alan Dwight Bendele; a grandson-in-law, Steve Saegert; a brother, James O. Harrison. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., Thursday, at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 6, 2001 at Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes with Interment to follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery of Helotes.
