Henrietta "Yettie" Belzung

September 11, 1901 - August 11, 1999

Yettie Belzung was born September 11, 1901 in Bexar County, TX. one of five children born to Dedloff & Katherina Gass Bormann.  She was baptized into the Christian faith on April 19, 1903 at the Helotes School House later to become Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes.

At the age of 20, Yettie married Edwin Eugene Belzung on December 21, 1921, and they farmed and ranched, along with Edwin's brothers, the large Belzung Brothers farm at Talley Road and Hwy 471.  Their marriage was blessed with 3 wonderful children, Royce, Chloris and Rae.  In the late 40's, the farm was sold, and they moved to her father-in-law's property farther out 471, and then back into San Antonio, where Edwin went to work at Kelly Field.  Eventually, they moved back to Leon Valley, where their property included the famous landmark oak tree on Bandera Road just north of Huebner.  Yettie worked in a bakery, and then went to work for the Northside High School in their cafeteria, eventually retiring from Northside.

Yettie confirmed her faith in Christ her Lord as an adult, at Zion Lutheran Church on Cincinatti Ave., on July 28, 1950, and then shortly after, transferred to Zion of Helotes in 1951.  She was an active member here for the remainder of her years.

After the death of her husband, Edwin, Yettie moved in with Chloris' family where she lived until a fall took her to Patriot Heights Nursing Home, and eventually, to the lovely Country Living Boarding Home near Natalia, where she had wonderful care through the remainder of her days.

Yettie was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, and son, Royce.  She is survived by her daughters Chloris Varga and Rae Burll and her husband, Robert; daughter-in-law, Essa Belzung; grandchildren, Dr. Catherine Sauri, Joe & Eva Varga, Carole & Ted Jenkins, Royce Allan & Sue Belzung and Steve & Joe Lee Belzung; nine great grandchildren and two great, great granddaughters.
