How to shop for a DJ by phone
The biggest mistake most people make is to first ask "How much do you charge?" And this is the ONLY question they ask! The DJ is one of the most important factors of your event. Price should be your last consideration. While price is important, it is NOT the most important reason to select a particular DJ. Try to find out how good the DJ is, then consider price.

So what should I say?
Begin your call by indicating the date, time, and location of your event. It makes no sense to ask any other questions if the DJ is already booked!

Other questions you could ask:
How long have you been in business?
What type of attire will you wear?
How good is your equipment?
What selections of music do you have?

Eventually you will want to talk price, but do so in general terms. Some DJ's have packages they offer like we do. Some DJ's price according to hall size or number of guests. Ask for some price ranges. Also, some DJ companies have several different DJ's or employees they send out for the actual performance. Before confirming anything, make an appointment to know exactly who will be the DJ at your event.

Make sure you also ask about extras the DJ may charge for. For example, there could be an extra charge for going up a flight of stairs. Here are some other things DJ's charge extra for: Stairs or steps, travel, setup, location, MC, special effects like fog and lights.
