How to filter SPAM using Outlook Express FYI: Outlook Express cannot be used to filter out mail utilizing our 'SPAM FILTER: TAGGING' method. Outlook Express has not option to filter mail based on message headers. You can either use another mail client, or filter mail based on subject lines and authors. 1. Select the TOOLS menu, locate the MESSAGE RULES section and select MAIL 2. Click on the NEW button, found on the right-hand side of the window 3. Check-mark the box next to WHERE THE SUBJECT LINE CONTAINS SPECIFIC WORDS 4. Under SELECT THE ACTIONS FOR YOUR RULE: choose the action the program is to take when it flags an e-mail for containing a matching word and/or phrase in the subject line 5. In the last box, there will be information containing underlined text. click on the underlined text and type in the words and/or phrases the rule is to look for. 6. EXAMPLE: a. Select the TOOLS menu b. Locate MESSAGE RULES c. Select MAIL d. Click on the NEW button e. Select MATCH ANY OF THE FOLLOWING f. In section 1, check-mark the box next to WHERE THE SUBJECT LINE CONTAINS SPECIFIC WORDS g. In section 2, select DELETE IT h. Click on the area in section 3 which says CONTAINS SPECIFIC WORDS i. Type in REPAIR YOUR CREDIT j. Click on the OK button k. Enter in filter name REPAIR YOUR CREDIT l. Click on the OK button This filter is now complete. Any new email which comes into the inbox with REPAIR YOUR CREDIT anywhere in the subject line will now be redirected to the trash.
